Thoughts on Michelle’s Speech

It’s always a good idea to arrive early to a convention, especially with the tight security at the Pepsi Center. So we did just that, breezing right through the security screening area, buying a rather overpriced sandwich, and settling in for the night.
One thing about conventions is that the experience of being there is much different than what one might experience watching at home or online. There’s plenty to see and do, and generally the convention is filled with the noise of hundreds (thousands?) of side conversations. After all, this is a political convention, and the best networking to be had is often on the floor when anybody who’s anybody in Democratic politics are all in one place.
That all stopped when Michelle came out last night. When she took the stage and began speaking the only voice audible in the building was her’s. It was not hard to spot delegates leaning forward in their seats taking it all in. They simply could not get enough of their next First Lady.
For me the best moment of the night was Senator Obama’s surprise appearance by satellite at the end of her remarks. It’s very easy to see how deep his love is for her and their two daughters.
